A local's guide to the best spring dates in NYC

Posted by Gabriela on 4th May 2018

Ah, summertime in the city! New Yorkers get to ditch the parkas, show some skin, and play like children in the city that never sleeps. Whether you’re into the arts, nature, or a tasty food, NYC has you covered. Get your sundress ready, put on the strappy sandals, drip in diamonds and get out there and have some fun!

If you both like the Arts…

MET: Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination

The exhibition will span across three venues; the Anna Wintour Costume Center, the MET medieval galleries and the Cloisters, located uptown in Fort Tryon Park. The show runs from May 10th through October 8th , and will be preceded by the epic Oscars of fashion, the MET Gala. I attended Marissa Mayer’s after party for the China: Through the Looking Glass Gala at the Boom Boom Room and let me tell you, that party was insane! I was decked out in my Carelle Whirl necklace, rings and bracelets dancing alongside Selena Gomez, Kendall Jenner, Leonardo Di Caprio and Jennifer Connelly. Usually the life of the party, I nervously sipped champagne in the corner alone (because my date couldn’t get in!) and stared at Sarah Jessica Parker, wondering what she was talking about to Andy Cohen. I looked through the crowd checking off all of the celebrities I had always wanted to meet and resented the fact that I was the only non-celeb in the joint and transformed into a wallflower. So if you can get into the Gala, have fun. If not, you’ll probably have more fun seeing all of the amazing creations in the show.

Frieze Art Fair

The event takes place on Randall’s Island from May 3rd to May 6th. Be prepared to see the who’s who of the art world mingling and peacocking in their best lewks. If you’re lucky, you might run into Aziz Ansari or Joe Jonas or another one of your low-key Instagram crushes. I bought my ticket for Sunday and I’ll be sipping champers and wearing pieces from our Brushstroke collection. So apropos.

Because it’s finally warm…

Citibike along the West Side Highway

What’s more romantic than working up a nice sweat on a Citibike? Start in Battery Park City and ride up the West Side Highway. Don’t forget to reward yourself with some oysters on a boat at Grand Banks located at Pier 25. It’s such a fun ride when the weather is nice, but just be aware that the bike path can get pretty crowded on the weekends.

A60 Rooftop at Sixty Soho

It’s small, it’s intimate, and it’s the sexiest little rooftop in Soho. Don’t be surprised if you can’t get a seat, but if you can, order a bottle of Sancerre, enjoy the warmth, the breeze and the privacy to make out with your boo. I like to throw on my big Disco Dot necklace and Disco Drop earrings to really make an entrance. If you can’t get up to the rooftop, try the cozy Gordon bar, which is decorated exquisitely and sure to make you feel relaxed.

Bon appetit!

Jongro BBQ

You’ll know if you’re compatible if you can stuff your face with Korean BBQ and kimchi at Jongro and still want to make out after a dinner date in K-town. My boyfriend lived in Korea for several years and introduced me to this super legit spot. It’s hard to find, upstairs on the second floor and the food is to die for. I recommend splitting a bottle of shochu and ordering a generous helping of kalbi. If you’re feeling bold afterward, try your hand at some karaoke at one of the local spots!

Bar Jamon

When it’s warm, they open up the windows, light up all the candles and somehow you feel transported to the Costa Brava. Tapas are always a great date idea since it’s friendly to picky eaters and those with dietary restrictions. This romantic Irving Place bar has even received a Michelin star! Dress to impress—I like the way my pave Knot ring sparkles in the candlelight. I recommend ordering a bottle of the Monje, 2008 and going for a few cheeses, the pan con tomate, and of course the jamon iberico. When you’re done with dinner, stroll down the romantic, tree lined streets and plan your next move.

From theatre shows on Broadway to a nice stroll along Chelsea Pier, NYC has every kind of activity you can imagine for taking your sweetheart on a date they’ll never forget. Put on a nice dress and your favorite pieces from your jewelry box and have yourself a good time!
